“Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships” – Michael Jordan

Katja Kobow
Group Leader
I am a biochemist turned molecular neuropathologist with a PhD in neuroscience and genetics. My independent research focuses on epigenetics and epilepsy. Researching a disease like epilepsy allows me to study the human brain’s complexity and beauty while finding meaning in improving patients’ lives and clinical care.

Mitali Katoch
PhD Student
I am a bioinformatician by training now doing a PhD in Computational Neuroscience. My current research explores the role of DNA methylation in the pathogenesis of epilepsy and the use of epigenetic signatures as diagnostic, predictive, and prognostic biomarker.

Kristina Karandasheva
PhD Student
I am an MD specialized in Medical Cybernetics. My background is mainly computational and I love to analyze any type of omics data. But more recently I moved to the wet lab to do exciting research on cellular and brain mechanics.

Technician
I do all the routine stuff in the lab, but I also love research, and help wherever I am needed.

Hendrik Zimmermann
MD Student
I am an MD student, who took a couple of months off to do my MD thesis in the lab. Motivated by the observation of seizures’ aligning with circadian and multidien/slow rhythms, I investigate the expression of core CLOCK genes in focal epilepsy associated with structural brain lesions.

Paraskevi Chasani
Postdoc
I love maths and computer science. As a postdoc with loads of experience in machine and deep learning, I am overseeing epigenetic data analysis projects, helping train new students, and also participating in teaching activities. In my project, I investigate transgenerational effects of early-life exposure to ASMs.
