“Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships” – Michael Jordan

Katja Kobow
Group Leader
I am a biochemist turned molecular neuropathologist with a PhD in neuroscience and genetics. My independent research focuses on epigenetics and epilepsy. Researching a disease like epilepsy allows me to study the human brain’s complexity and beauty while finding meaning in improving patients’ lives and clinical care.

Paraskevi Chasani
Postdoc
I love maths and computer science. As a postdoc with loads of experience in machine and deep learning, I am overseeing epigenetic data analysis projects, helping train new students, and also participating in teaching activities. In my project, I investigate transgenerational effects of early-life exposure to ASMs.

Kristina Karandasheva
PhD Student
I am an MD specialized in Medical Cybernetics. My background is mainly computational, and I love analyzing all types of omics data. But more recently, I moved to the wet lab to do exciting research on cellular and brain mechanics.

Alessia Perciavalle
PhD student (Internship)
I am a biologist and currently in the final stretch of my PhD in “Oncology, Hematology, and Pathology”. I left my home in Italy to join the Kobow Lab for a 6-month internship to gain new skills in epigenetics and programming and to enjoy the opportunity to network, collaborate, and grow professionally and personally.

Mitali Katoch
PhD Student
I am a bioinformatician by training now doing a PhD in Computational Neuroscience. My current research explores the role of DNA methylation in the pathogenesis of epilepsy and the use of epigenetic signatures as diagnostic, predictive, and prognostic biomarker.

Manuel Schmid
MSc student
I am a Molecular Medicine student interested in translational neuroscience. With previous experience in patient-derived iPSCs as a model for neuromuscular disease, I am now doing my Master’s thesis on aging in epilepsy using experimental animal models and human surgical brain tissue.

Lab Technician
I do all the routine stuff in the lab, but I also love research, and help wherever I am needed.
